Monotype is a unique process providing the artist with tools and materials that yield unparalleled results that are often innovative and surprising. Exploring watercolour and oil based inks, as well as chine collé techniques, students will progress through a series of steps that will open new possibilities for expression. While receiving individual attention regarding drawing, painting and composition, students will ultimately pull prints from the plexiglass matrix to paper using a manual press. The excitement of transformation and discovery is inherent in this media and is sure to inspire and fascinate participants. There will be discussion and class critiques throughout.

Mixed media works on watercolour paper with conté crayon, oil pastel, watercolour paints and graphite
For the past 7 years I have been teaching printmaking workshops and participating in Arts Week at West Point Grey Academy in Vancouver with Grades 5 to 7. The past two years I set up a still life based on Spring with garden tools, seeds, pods, floral arrangements etc. and held a mixed media collaboration for the Grade Five classes. The kids work from the still life and collaborate on each other’s paintings. The results have been wonderful expressionistic mixed media paintings.

One of my greatest passions in the last ten years has been my involvement with Artists for Kids in North Vancouver, BC.
From artist in residence at the Summer Camp Art Program in Paradise Valley (2006) to artist in residence twice for the Art Enhancement Program in North Vancouver (2005/2011), to instructor for a mixed media painting workshop with their Art Academy at Carson Graham (2012), I have loved working with all the young artists, instructors, staff and facilities at AFK.
